The Lower Loop tour of Yellowstone, which is marked in blue, starts in Jackson and would have us entering Yellowstone from the S. Entrance, and following the blue route shown above in a clockwise direction. This is a distance of roughly 260 miles round trip from Jackson.
The Upper Loop Tour, which is marked in Red, is only available on multiple day tours, due primarily to the distance and time required to reach the upper portion of YNP, It would be virtually impossible to do the Upper Loop tour from Jackson in one day, and still be able to make stops for wildlife, scenic and historic areas, a meal, and still return to Jackson at a reasonable hour. This tour, if done from Jackson, would would entail traveling over 300 miles, and would include many more additional stops and walks to really appreciate what you are seeing. Therefore if you wish to see the Upper Loop we recommend a multiple day tour which would include both upper and lower loops, and would require staying at one of the satellite communities around Yellowstone, or if available, at one of the In-Park lodging facilities.
This is Yellowstone!

Old Faithful during one of it's numerous eruptions. This obviously, being the world's most famous geyser, is a must see!
Our custom tours can be done in many ways, and for many days. We will do our best to design a custom tour for you that will accommodate your wishes. Tour departure times, routes, dining options, as well as tour duration are subject to modification at your request. The normal custom tour leaves Jackson at 6:15 a.m., and takes in the southern loop of Yellowstone (approximately 260 miles). It lasts an average of eleven hours, and includes numerous photographic stops for wildlife and scenic areas. Unfortunately with construction projects in Grand Teton and Yellowstone in 2009 the duration of the tour can be much longer, which is the reason our tours leave as early as they do.
The opportunity to walk one or two of the geyser basins in the Firehole River Valley will always be offered to our guests. Stops would include, but obviously are not limited to, Old Faithful, the Fountain Paint Pots region, Gibbon Falls, the Lower Falls of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (probably the most majestic view in Yellowstone), the Hayden Valley, and Yellowstone Lake Hotel (the oldest existing hotel in Yellowstone, built in 1891, also the worlds longest wooden hotlel- 890 ft. long) on the shores of Yellowstone Lake. We tell guests, if you stay in the east end of the hotel you need to pack a lunch to go to breakfast, it's a long way...........:)
This runoff channel from Rainbow Pool in the Black Sands basin is only one of many to be seen and photographed.
You need to remember that you will be touring the First National Park not just in the United States, but anywhere in the world. It is larger than the states of Rhode Island, Delaware combined (3472 square miles). It is impossible to see all of Yellowstone in a day, so we do our best to show you as much as possible in the time allotted.
Hence we do offer multiple day tours, which need to be scheduled well in advance to ensure availability. We highly recommend that if you decide on a multiple day tour that you make reservations as soon as is possible. This is due to the fact that the summer months are so busy it often times is extremely difficult to secure reservations on the dates you wish without a good deal opf advanced notice. You can check out our links page to see the lodging options in and around Yellowstone. Two additional side trips often requested while on multiple day tours are to the Grizzly Discovery Center and Wolf Recovery Center in West Yellowstone, Mt. (The Snowmobile Capital of the World), and also to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming ( one of the largest museum complexes under cover in the United States - over a third of a million square feet). These are two very popular destinations with our guests, time permitting of course.
Our tours vary in price relative to the length of time required, and the distance which must be travelled to visit the areas you wish to see. We suggest you visit our Tour Costs link to get an idea of pricing for these tours. If there are any questions do not hesitate to contact us either via email, or at our office phone.
If wildlife photography is your primary interest, of course that is what we will attempt to offer. Obviously there are no guarantees with any of the animals, especially bear and wolves, however there are many locations which offer increased opportunities to observe certain wildlife species over others. The Hayden Valley for bison and sometimes bear and wolves; the Firehole Valley, and the Madison River Valley, for elk, bison, and the occasional wolf; the Mammoth Hotsprings region, Tower Falls, and the Lamar Valley, for wolves, bear, bison, and antelope (multiple day trips only).

The Old Faithful Inn (constructed between 1903-1904), was then, and is today, the largest log structure in the world. It is also on the National Register of Historic Sites.
The departure time for our Yellowstone tours is normally 6:15 a.m. when leaving from the Jackson Hole Valley (This can be changed at your request within reason). With the current road construct in the Gibbon River Canyon area this allows us to stay ahead of most of the traffic entering Yellowstone on a daily basis. The earlier departure time during the 2010 season surfaced because of these construction delays.
It should be understood that our custom private tours are booked by one party only. The private tours will only include the person booking the tour, and his or her guests. No outside guests are accepted on a private tour, unless it is at the request of the person making the reservation. Many guests have expressed their desire not to share their adventure with others they do not know. This allows more flexibility in the scheduling and planning of the tour, in that you don't have to accommodate several different groups, and their individuals agendas.
However, if you would like to share tour costs we can place your name on a list, which we would be happy to do at your request, and if we have other inquiries with the same request(s), for the same dates, we would then contact you to see if this is still an option you are interested in.
Number 399, probably the most famous grizzly in the lower forty-eight. Thousands watched her raise her three cubs over a three year period in Grand Teton National Park.
Our custom tour prices are based on four guests, but our tour vehicles can accommodate six guests comfortably, and up to seven guests if children or small adults are included. Larger groups are accepted if requested by the person booking the tour. Advanced notice is necessary for these larger groups, which hopefully would enable us to ensure the availability of the larger vehicle(s) as required.
If any tour requires an overnight stay the guests are responsible for the guides expenses (meals and lodging). The "In park" meals for the guides are furnished by both Xantera (main park concessionaire) or the Yellowstone General Stores, operated by another concessionaire known as Delaware North, therefore there is no charge to the guests for these meals.
