We offer wildlife and/or Scenic tours all year. In the late spring, through the summer, and into the fall, you'll find that the animals are not as likely to be concentrated in any one particular area as might be expected during the winter months. The bison would be an exception to this generalization, as are the elk during the "rut" in late summer and early fall. The bull elk start to gather their harems of cows in August and early September during the "rut", or mating season, and are seen in the sagebrush meadows and forest "parks", or clearings, quite frequently.

The best time of day to view the animals is early mornings, or late afternoon/evenings. Either time would be be better than the heat of the day when many of the animals, especially the elk, have returned to the forested areas to bed down. This applies to most of the larger mammals.

The main reason that you don't see as many of the animals during the snow free times of the  year (spring,summer/fall)as you might during the winter is due primarily to the thousands of square miles of habitat the animals have access to once the snows melts. During the late fall, and early winter months, many of the animals migrate to lower elevations where the snow pack in not as deep, and where what little food there is can be much easier to get to. Winter quite often makes finding wildlife a great deal easier.

The bear obviously are an exception to this rule, in that they usually go into hibernation in mid to late fall after the first heavy snows (generally in November), and don't come back out until late February till early May, depending on the winter.Unless you have a special request, the wildlife tours will normally last three to four hours, and will begin at, or shortly before sunrise. All  of our tours will be done in Sport Utility Vehicles     (4 x 4s),  eleven to fifteen passenger window vans, or our custom GMC Savana Regency van.

During the winter months we highly recommend wearing clothing that is commensurate with the unpredictable weather found here in the central Rocky Mountain West. Remember that the weather in this region can change at a moment’s notice, so you always want to be prepared for any eventuality.

We will have umbrellas, and rain jackets in our vehicles, however if you would prefer to you bring your own foul weather gear that would be fine. It is also a good idea to carry a jacket, or warm sweater with you on these tours, even in the summer months. Remember there are only 60 days a year in the Jackson Hole Valley that remain frost free, and only 45 in Yellowstone. Mornings can sometimes be quite exhilarating if you know what I mean. For example, in 2005 in Yellowstone we only had one month that we didn't see snow, and that was July.

We will have binoculars, and possibly a spotting scope, in the tour vehicle, to facilitate viewing wildlife, as well as the different scenic vistas. However, if you have your own optics, we would encourage you to bring them along.

On your tour you will have an experienced guide with many years of experience guiding in the Jackson Hole Valley, as well as the Grand Teton and Yellowstone regions. Your guide will be more than happy to try to answer any of the numerous questions which normally arise during the course of a normal tour. We look forward to having the opportunity to answer your questions, and we will do our best to provide the information you seek. WE DO NOT MAKE UP THE ANSWERS, as I've seen some guides do. If we don't know we'll tell you, but we will do our best to find the answer(s) to your question(s) before the tour is complete.

We try to visit several different areas of the valley during the course of the tours. Make sure to bring your photographic equipment and plenty of film, or digital media. Also remember extra batteries. With all the pictures you will find yourself taking you will be surprised how fast the batteries in your camera are discharged. To be most honest, a backup camera, even if it is a disposable one, is a real good idea.

These tours usually start with a pickup from your lodging facility at, or shortly, before sunrise, enabling us to take advantage of the early morning light, for breath taking sunrises, and for the most active period of the day for the wildlife. Because these are private tours they include only the person booking the tour, and the guests that person chooses to have join us. We will never add anyone to your tour unless it is at your request.

The Scenic Valley Tours - $100/hr with a two hour minimum for four guests or fewer,  to allow us to book this tour.  This does include the guide's gratuity. These tours are exactly what the name would suggest, tours of the valley to allow you the opportunity to enjoy one of the early morning sunrises, or late afternoon sunsets. You will also be able to enjoy the many mountain and valley vistas, as well as some of the native wildlife, generally present during those times of day. These tours would be a great opportunity to see and photograph some of the most beautiful sights the valley has to offer.

A visit to the Grizzly Discovery Center and Imax Theater in West Yellowstone, Montana . The Discovery Center has eight adult grizzlies which can be seen in natural enclosures, not in cages. There is also a wonderful interpretive center guests can enjoy as well. Shopping in West Yellowstone, Mt. is also something that many guests enjoy. The tour cost would be $675 for 1-4 guests to allow us to book this tour. This is not a per person charge. After the initial fee for the first four guests, the cost for each additional guest in the same vehicle would be $75 per day. Also, once the minimum fee has been met children under the age of 12 are half price, and seniors (65 years of age and older) will receive a 10% discount. Meals are the guest’s responsibility. A 15% guide's gratuity will be added to the cost of the tour.

The Cathedral Group which makes up the central core of the Teton Range.

If your group is visiting Jackson on an extended tour via a chartered bus, or other type of transportation, we also offer a step-on guide service. This can be in your own personal, or rental vehicle as well. See our tour costs page for the rates.
